Graduation Requirements

The Board of Education will award diplomas to students who meet the requirements set forth below:

Regents Diploma

A Regents Diploma will be awarded to students who receive a score of at least 65 on five required Regents Examinations and complete 22.5 units of credit as required.

A Regents Diploma with Honors will be awarded to those students who meet the requirements stated above and achieve an average score of 90 percent in all their required Regents exams.

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation

A Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation will be awarded to students who score at lease 65 on up to 8 required Regents exams and earn 22.5 units of credit as required.

A Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors will be awarded to those students who meet the requirements stated above and achieve an average score of 90 percent in all their required Regents exams.

Local Diploma

Students entering 9th Grade prior to September 2008 who complete 22.5 units of credit can also receive a Local Diploma if they complete the following Regents Exam requirements:

  • Entering 9th grade September 2005 – 65+ on two Regents Exams & 55-64 on three Regents Exams
  • Entering 9th grade September 2006 – 65+ on three Regents Exams & 55-64 on two Regents Exams
  • Entering 9th grade September 2007 – 65+ on four Regents Exams & 55-64 on one Regents Exams
  • Entering 9th grade September 2006 – No Local Diploma option for General Education students

Students who have been designated as having a disability must have completed 22.5 units of credit and fulfilled the Regents Exam requirement as outlined in the Commissioner’s regulations.
