NCS Cell Phone Policy & Acceptable Use Update

Parent(s) & Guardian(s) of NCS Students,

As part of our continued efforts to support teaching and learning here at school, we would like to remind students and families of our cell phone policy, as well as provide an update for changes that we will be including this year. Please see a summary broken down by grade level below:

  • Elementary School (PreK-5) – Students should not have their cell phones out for use at any time during the school day.
  • Middle School (Grades 6-8) – Students should not have their cell phones out for use at any time during the school day.
  • High School (Grades 9-12) – Students will be allowed to have their cell phones during lunch, but cell phones should be away at all other times during the day.
    • High school students should not have their cell phones out for use at any time during class, in the hallways, or in study halls. Our priority at school is to focus on teaching and learning.
    • No earbuds or headphones in students’ ears while they are in class, study halls, or hallways.

At this point in time, we are not looking to lock up student’s cell phones or restrict access to them during the school day. Students will be expected to keep their phones away in their backpacks and respect the work that our teachers and staff are doing. In the event that students cannot respect what we have outlined above, their parents/guardians will need to come into school to pick up their phones from the office at the end of the day.

Lastly, if you have any questions or concerns that are specific to you or your child, we welcome and encourage you to reach out to us prior to the start of the school year. Again, our focus and emphasis are on the importance of teaching and learning and we look forward to seeing everyone back in action soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Chauncey, Samuel Ratti-Robinson & Tammy Reidell
